Air Bag Recall
Toyota Canada has announced a safety recall of certain model years based on the Takata airbag recall. The airbag inflators can be susceptible to rupture when deployed in a crash, which can increase the risk of injury to the passengers. Several manufacturers are affected by this recall, including Chrysler, Ford, Nissan, BMW, Honda and more, resulting in over 24 million recalled vehicles worldwide. The majority of the incidents involving the air bags have been in areas that experience a high level of humidity, none of which so far have occurred in Canada and are occurring in older vehicle models. To date, there have been no reports of any deaths or injuries in any affected vehicles manufactured by Toyota, and Toyota Motor Corporation has vowed to be aggressive with recalls to ensure the safety of Toyota customers around the world.
To date, Toyota Canada has recalled approximately 14,570 model year 2004 and 2005 RAV 4's, and 3,803 2003 and 2004 Tundra's and 606 model year 2003 and 2004 Sequoia vehicles.
Toyota owners whose vehicles are affected by the recall will receive a letter by mail from Toyota Canada.
