Cupcake Celebrations: Celebrating Charlesglen Toyota’s Legacy
Our family story begins with Glen Richardson. Glen, born and raised in Southern Alberta, had a passion for cars from a very early age. One of his favorite stories to share involves being “pulled over” while driving the family car to the car wash when he was too small to properly see over the steering wheel. Building a career in automotive Richardson found himself with a professional career doing what he loved. In the spring of 1988; partners Gordon and Glen Rumpel, joined Glen Richardson in opening Charlesglen Toyota on Crowfoot Circle (fondly remembered by the staff as “The Old Store”)
On October 31, 2011 Charlesglen Toyota expanded and moved to our facility in the North West Auto Mall. Seemingly overnight; our family and facility, grew but the heart has always stayed the same. Building on the reputation of his father; Todd Richardson encouraged business growth. Todd focused on the importance of expanding while still maintaining the standards we are famous for. In February of 2014 Todd Richardson moved across the street to open Lexus of Royal Oak leaving the care of Charlesglen Toyota with his brother David Richardson. David accepted the positon as Dealer Principal with the intent to “change the industry” one fan at a time. David made every visitor and staff member feel like a part of the family.
With 100+ employees, a 30 vehicle showroom, 40 mechanical bays and a rooftop inventory lot to house 214 vehicles; we have still managed to maintain the small company feel that is so important to the Charlesglen experience.
In August 2015; tragedy struck our family with the sudden passing of our Dealer Principal David Richardson. The loss was felt by everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with David. Our customers, who poured in to share memories of David, have been our reason for continuing to move forward and striving daily to maintain the standards set forth by Glen, Todd and David.
Tim Beach: family, friend, Charlesglen employee since 1991; accepted the appointment of Dealer Principal at Charlesglen Toyota leading us into 2016 and beyond. Tim encouraged tireless dedication to lead and carry on the legacy of the Richardson Family. “We treat you like family” isn’t just a promise from Tim. He encourages the team in every way to ensure that every customer, staff and guest feels like the Charlesglen Experience should be the standard in the automotive industry.
The accolades are notable: 2016-2018 Dealer of the Year for Alberta-Dealer Rater, 2017 Toyota President’s Club and Pinnacle Awards, and numerous Reader’s Choice Award-Calgary Herald but the measure of “success” for Tim has always been our customer loyalty. Glen Richardson was noted saying “The purchase of the vehicle is not the end of the transaction but the beginning of a lifelong obligation.” Tim Beach believes this is the only way to do business. From our low staff turnover to our “legacy customers” we want to make sure every experience at Charlesglen is a positive one.
Our visitors aren’t just here to “buy or fix” a car. They come for the knowledgeable no pressure experience and they return because we have heart in everything we do.
Not every day is easy but the moments we shared deserve to be celebrated. For those who knew David, you know it’s easy to find stories to celebrate who he was. Tomorrow is National Disc Golf Day but today we hope you celebrate with a visit to the David Richardson Memorial Disc Golf Park. Thank you to all those who take the time to smile and share their memories of David. Charlesglen Toyota is a “Great Place where great people do great work” and today we are proud to continue that legacy.
Always remembered and celebrated today.
